I love this cute little set of bits for a toddler, using vector illustrations with a lovely colour palette. They have identified products suitable for their target audience and applied them really well.

I really like the digital elements within this product range, the interactive bus shelter being my favourite. Its something I aspire to be able to either design or propose.

DC - Brief 1 - Anna Walker - Illustrator

I came across Anna Walker whilst looking at children's books and found a real interest within the illustration style of the book 'I love my dad'. The simple watercolour character illustrations against a white backgrounds - the images were simple enough for a child the age of 3 - 5 to understand, and playful enough to be child friendly.

I don't believe in dragons 

A slightly more adventurous method of illustration, there is a lot of colour and background content behind characters. I'm a bit concerned this may be too much for a young child to understand in this style of illustration - with watercolour there is no harsh outline to separate objects. 

Storying boarding is something I must consider

My favourite of Anna's books, I really like the colour palette and illustration style, I would like to emulate this within my own designs.

Brief 5 - Laura Ashley

I have a huge interest in interior design, and all the products within it, more so the prints and illustrative patterns you can get on almost every house hold object. This is what has made me so excited about doing the Laura Ashley brief, that it will allow me to produce something usable in the real world, and will give me creative freedom. 

I wanted to see about the range of products which are able to be printed on, and the list is extensive. Below are a few different products which I like for both aesthetic purpose and as a decorative household object.

The patterns on the selection of mugs below, although a varied different pattern, work together as a series. This ideally is something I would like to be able to achieve within this brief, to create a range of illustrative surface pattern designs, so each product is individual to itself.

I love cushions. Like, loads. Probably have about 20 on my bed at home. 

This is another area I could push my pattern design into, and thats textiles and fabrics, which then opens up an even larger range of products I could design for. The colours used within the below designs in what I like best, its out of my comfort zone in regard to designing with so much vibrant colour, but if this is the outcome, I think its worth giving a try.

I work primarily in black and white, so the designs below realistically are the closest to my current design style. I like the simplicity of the concept of the mug collection, showing the four seasons. For my product to be successful it will need a strong concept and idea like this.

Brief 5 - Wrapping paper pattern

I want to create something Paperchase havent done before, their pattern collection choices seem to focus on cartoon character and colour palette, I would like to bring something contemporary to fill the gap. Looking at few colours, and a more intricate illustartion style I came across the below textile surface patterns and gitware ranges

The colour and style used in the below pattern is certainly something I aspire to be able to create, I want to push myself in this module to be as good as I can be. To focus an area of my portfolio on illustrative surface pattern design,

The old, classic, war time style this wrapping paper achieves is something I quite like, using string for instance to wrap the paper adds to this quality. My interests lie in antiques and the old, aged appearance papers and furniture obtain over the years, so looking at this as a creative platform could lead this brief to be highly research driven, and could be quite fun and experimental looking at ways to age paper.

Hand rendered type is a favourite skill of mine, after coming across the below design, I realised I could utalise my skill within this brief and make something really quite beautiful. Content is something I will have to research and consider, regarding what the collection will be used for, whether to use something which is transferable, such as flower types, dog breeds (each to their own) or to make it primarily related to an occasion.

Similarly to the above design, the below made me realise to the extent I could push my hand rendered typography to become a range, and how flexible and fun this brief could be. The products below are something I really want to be able to do, to the quality, and proffesionalism. Over this year I want to do at least 2 briefs which I really enjoy doing, I believe this to be one. I feel I do a much better job of the final outcome, if I enjoy the brief itself.

Brief 3 - Surface Pattern Design

As I want to concentrate and improve my skills within illustration for this brief I decided I wanted to try something new, to create surface pattern design, to push across a giftware range and packaging. I have found it difficult to try and do in the past, so its a technique I will have to research somewhat as to how to create a pattern which can be duplicated and create a swatch from.

I came across these really cute surface pattern design in relation to Spring / Summer - The topic I intend on concentrating on illustrating. Colour is an important element within these designs, they have been limited in regard to colour types (pastels, earthy etc) and have been carefully considered due to subject matter. 

Although the reason for the below designs is simply aesthetically driven, I want mine to contain meaning and reasoning - to be able to give explanation to my reason for doing the design and choosing content. This is something I need to look into further.
