FMP - Brief 2 - Packaging and product range Finalisation

So I constructed all of the left over packaging pieces today - I'm super happy with the range I've managed to create, it's probably one of the most extensive I have created, but has retained a consistency regardless.

I have made these products in regard to set categories:

- Retail Material
- In Coffee Shop
- Window dislay
- Promotional

Feeling these were the necessary and most suitable areas to push the brand and concept. The products fit in the sections by these products:

Retail Material:
Large glass Coffee Jar product available - for purchase
Glass Douwe Egberts branded mug - for purchase
Coasters - for purchase
Recipe Book - Given as an ad on with purchases

In Coffee Shop:
Large glass Coffee Jar product available for purchase
Glass Douwe Egberts branded mug - Supplied when purchasing DE coffee
Coasters - Supplied within Coffee shop seating areas
Glass sample jars - To be given out with purchases of DE products and Coffees

Window Display:
Large decorative hessian wrapped coffee jar

Promotional:
Mail Out
Glass jar samples
Small Hessian wrapped samples
Coffee cup samples
Recipe Book

Entire range ( minus recipe book)

FMP - Brief 3 - Recipe Book construction

First time I've ever actually printed a booklet, and managed to get it right! Small steps and all..

So after deciding to create a recipe book, and extracting the information and content from Douwe Egberts website, I produced a 12cm x 12cm booklet (which will be small enough to hand out) of which I simple bound with the same thread used across the packaging material to create a level of consistency.

I first created a mock up so I could evaluate how best to print and bind it.

The final outcome:

I made a few changes after practising printing, I realised some body text too small to read, and the printers capability of printing the front cover black wasn't of good enough quality so decided for white instead.

FMP - Brief 2 - Recipe Book

I felt a good way to push people to drink at home rather than at a coffee shop would be to provide a recipe book, using Douwe Egberts coffee products, to get coffee shop standard drinks. It acts as a recipe book, this will be proposed to give out with samples distributed within coffee shops and from coffee carts.

Source: http://www.douwe-egberts.co.uk/Pages/recipes.aspx

I managed to come across Douwe Egberts recipes on their website, in which I extracted their material and put into the form of a book.

FMP - Brief 2 - Design for retail

I have considered Douwe Egberts coffee products within the retail environment, and how it would be presented within retail and coffee shops. For this I have designed the stands for the products and banners which would go alongside and around coffee shops.

Instore stands and banners:

I have also designed the window graphics within suitable retailers - proposed to hold and sell Douwe Egberts Coffee. I felt it best to directly aim the target audience of those who go to coffee shops by holding advertisement material and the products within them. Starbucks being the biggest coffee shops and Whittards being a specialist tea and coffee retailer.

FMP - Brief 2 - Promo Material - Outside Coffee shop stand

Another suitable method of promotion I felt was a 3D two sided outside stand, which will be placed strategically outside coffee shops and retail stores. They will entice consumers to purchase the coffee product, rather than drink the hot beverage inside.

Default Stands:

FMP - Brief 2 - Promo Material Sample Cart

As part of the product range I am proposing sample packs of coffee to be given out with purchases at coffee shops and to be distributed by a coffee cart, supplying small bundles of coffee and coffee cup samples for people to try and take home. These carts will be placed near coffee shops along the high street - a popular destination of the target market.

The default vector cart stand I have created:

Initial designs holding slogan 'enjoy it here enjoy it at home'.

I felt the most appropriate slogan would be 'Tasting its best on your favourite mug' making the link between the sample given.

FMP - Brief 2 - Promo Material - Billboard material

A suitable method of promotion I felt was billboards - as they are generally situated around city centre outskirts and in view of commuters. This I feel is a great way to make potential consumers want Douwe Egberts coffee products, to arrive home to, or make.

Since the brief is to make Douwe Egberts coffee more popular to a younger audience and to drink at home, I felt quite a personal approach would be best - using the idea of having coffee in your favourite mug.

I have created a few varied designs:

FMP - Brief 2 - Sources for submission

For mocking up purposes onto shop fronts I have sourced the logos of a popular coffee shop, and coffee retailer to propose the Douwe Egberts promotional and advertisement design elements to be used within. For submission purpose, images used which are not your own, you must source.

FMP - Brief 2 - Application of packaging stickers

Today I managed to get all the digital print based packaged printed, onto sticker paper, to then attach to the glass products. I have kept them minimal with the intention of the coffee beans themselves becoming the design material, as being seen through the glass. Each of the products will incorporate hessian in some shape, whether it be a wrap around, holder or price tag.

The glass coffee mug which will be provided at coffee stores and retail stores by those who purchase the coffee product as an ad on.

The coaster which will be at coffee shops at further promote the line of products, incorporating the hessian feel, with wicker.

The clear coffee mug reveals the DE logo within the coaster, once the coffee is consumed.
