FMP - Brief 1 - Sure start publication
I am proposing Surestart supply this pack to deprived families. I have produced a publication which gives more information about the pack, and its usefulness alongside statistics of the effects a deprived childhood can have on a child.

FMP - Brief 1 - Changes
So after reassessing the direction of my packaging design I have decided to keep the colour palette just one colours + plus, after realising it was too close to the iconic Ikea colour palette. I have also decided to expand the target audience past England, to be European - to be based across France and Spain. So this will need to be considered regarding the language barrier with the text content.
I have also decided my range needs to be numbered to support and evidence the concept of 'ten things' - a line of 10 products. With this I have also thought more about colour palette, and the overall product line - each individual product needs to be deciphered as working on its own and as part of a set. So working with colour hue I've decided each product will be a slightly different colour blue. Looking on Kuler ( https://kuler.adobe.com ) to find a range of blue shades I came up with the below colour palette:

FMP - Brief 1 - Re-assessed direction
So i'm currently really not happy with this brief, after quickly making some nets, applying some colours text and a logo, printing and constructing them I'd realised how lazy i'd been within this brief, considering at one point I wanted to be a packaging designer. So I am dedicating this next week to producing a packaging range I'm proud of.
Firstly the colour palette is a problem, as pre mentioned in a crit, it used the iconic colours of Ikea - Yellow and Blue, so I have decided to change the yellow to a cream - so it won't take to much time to adapt what I've already created.
I want to be more creative with my packaging but have a clear concept. My packaging is to be quite corporate and educational, seeing as services such as Surestart will be offering these to families. I am going to propose a simple minimal design, each item to be numbered, holding a brief description and logo. Also by using just one colour on stock (blue on antique white) it costs 75% cheaper to produce through printers.
I have taken inspiration from the following designs:

FMP - Brief 1 - Final Logo Variation
After a feedback session I came up with a final logo variation - to suit each individual packaging design, shape and size. Each contain the same elements, the only variation is composition.

FMP - Brief 1 - Creating nets
After drawing up and planning what each product would consist of, I decided to create nets in accordance, to get a clear idea of scale. I found some products would use the same nets so overall out of ten, I will be producing a total of net packaging nets. With the measurements, I can create mock ups to make sure they work, and to start planning designs to apply.

FMP - Brief 1 - Changes made since crit
Final series of logos to gain feedback on, to decide a final outcome.
The changes made to achieve above outcome:
Making the letterforms cleaners and crisp
Changing colour in accordance to feedback, darkening and adding a drop shadow
Experimenting with colour. I have decided to stick to the blue and yellow colour palette as I want to use the primary colours - which are easily identified by children, and red, the only colour left, did not work well. So although the colour palette may be similar to Ikea, I feel its a product range which will never come into that context to be compared to, or recognised as - after all its for children at home, as part of a charitable, family help program, not retail.
Image reworking:
Adding the chalk lettering to the chalk board using a chalk like pen tool, and adjusting tones and contrast within the image.

FMP - Brief 1 - Illustration Development
Taking inspiration from Anna Walker's book illustrations 'Today we have no plans' I have produced a series of illustrations to be used across my range of products and design material. The illustration content is children, with the intention children reading or using the final outcome will relate to a character illustrated.
I decided to outline the illustrations some what more than Anna does, to define detail.

The simple watercolour and pencil illustrations I produced, to look similiary like Anna's. I will be exploring editing them and adapting them digitally.

FMP - Brief 1 - Sketchbook Development
I am aware of the huge challenge this brief is going to be, it is my largest and estimated to take the entire module time to complete - in essence it's 10 briefs within one, producing a range of ten products.
I have starting drawing up finalised ideas for each of the 10 products, with clear design direction so I know exactly what I'm doing and producing, to help me in the time management element.
All of my products will contain watercolour children illustrations, in a range of scenarios, to retain consistency between each of the designs. I have designed each of the products so these can be used. The reason for this design content choice, is the target audience will relate to the children within the illustrations and find it easier to identify and use the products created.

FMP - Brief 1 - Educational Colours - Kuler
Before I started generating an identity for the product range, I need to identify a suitable colour palette which will reflect the products ethos and purpose, and to be attractive to both a young child, as the product user, and a parent, as the consumer.

Toy Boat:
After searching for potential colour palettes I found the most suitable to be named 'Toyboat', the colours are unisex, which is an important element as the products I intend on creating are aimed at both boys and girls. Some of the colours are primary colours - the kind a child would be introduced to in the early stages of school. An important element of this colour palette is that it holds bright, engaging colours - young children need this to stay interested and engaged with a product.
