For the event I want to create something 'old' to reflect the heritage of the brand, by re-creating the original event Be-Ro used to do as pre mentioned. I came across a Costa which had taken a similar approach to something I wanted to do.

DC - Nudge Branding - Cork lidded packaging
Source: http://lookslikegooddesign.com/branding-nudge/
Here, I really like the concept of using food like packaging for the candles, using the cork top on a glass container. Although not a food product, it has been influenced by food packaging which I feel makes it appropriate for my publication as content.

DC - Brief 4 - Methods of Packaging Flour
I briefly just wanted to explore a few other methods of retaining flour that was already out there. I wanted to look at existing items which I could brand and package, so looked of the Clas Ohlson website and came across a flour shaker, which is something I could consider thinking about. I also realised that another flour company had done what I was striving to achieve - a more ergonomic, less messy method of packaging for flour: home pride have created a lidded box which is easy to use.

DC - Holli - Box ergonomic packaging
Source: http://lovelypackage.com/holli-molle/#more-4155
Holli has created a very high end, very simple approach to packaging it's content which I think would work really well with baking products too. They have produced very simple sticker like packaging on metal cylinder, heavy duty resealable boxes and sacks. The branding created works across a range of scales and products which is something I will need to consider.

Here, the designer has managed to make something different whcih strives away from the standard method of packaging pasta, to something which looks high end, with a very simple approach. A simple box, with a die cut revealing the pasta, and sticker giving the product details has come together to produce something beautiful yet simple, with a luxury appearance.

DC - Packaging baking goods

Taking a very 'Country kitchen' approach to the packaging design. Keeping things very simple, and ergonomically friendly, and simple - the packaging looks like what it is and contains, they havent tried any tricks in relation to format and shape. The design of the type and sleeves are child like in the sense of using pastel colours, and sans serif typeface.

A different approach to baking goods and untensils, 'Bake sale' have made a selction of products which reflect country kitchen alongside the trade of painting, using paint pots to package ingredients. The range is something I should consider, its extensive but works well.

DC - Brief 4 - Alternative Packaging
Source: http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2013/2/8/brzel.html
A very simple approach to format using a box and sleeve, but the type, pattern, colour and illustrations is what makes this packaging special, vibrant, and of a high quality finish.

I really, really like this approach to packaging, using a very thin paper like stock with a simple die cut has been verry effective. Again we see the influence of older grocery packaging within the new.

FMP - Brief 4 - Bakery Aisle
I visited Morrisons bakery aisle today to try and get an understanding on Be-Ro and how it stood out within the baking market. To my surprise, I found it very hard to even see a Be-Ro products, as the bakery aisle has been overtaken by the Allison brand and its huge array of products on offer.
So now I have a better understanding of what needs doing to the Be-Ro brand - it needs to be distinctive and stand out against a crowded market. One way I could do this, is to move away from the traditional methods of packaging flour - to create something more substantial, for its packaging to be more solid, and substantial, to be easier to use rather than the messy and easily rippable paper bags which are used. I too feel it needs a larger range, currently it has two products - these need to be expanded, and can be easily by producing a range of sizes, and uses.

DC - Brief 4 - Allinson flour
Source: http://www.packagingoftheworld.com/2013/01/allinson-flour-redesign.html
'Brand packaging agency Family (and friends) has developed a new look for Allinson Flour to help boost the brand’s sales.
The brand has a great reputation in bread flour and yeast, but awareness that there is a culinary range has been very low.
One of the main problems has been that the range isn’t aligned with the typical culinary consumer; baking is a fun pastime and it requires ingredients that customers should enjoy shopping for, even their flour! '
Allinson is a well renowned brand of baking supplies, very much like Be-ro, but has recently redesigned it's packaging collection for its flour range. Using geometric patterns and shapes, with a bold 60s inspired colour palette they have engaged with a new, younger audience. It's packaging design became its focus to improve its sales and reputation, which it directly what I am trying to achieve with the Be-ro range.
Catagorising: Design for aesthetic purpose, to be outstanding among a shelf display stand, to entice customers to purchase the item base don what it looks like. Using bright bold colours in the form geometric patterns to do so.

DC - Brief 4 - Oven Love
Source: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Ovenlove/3103501
Oven love has taken a country kitchen approach in it's branding approach, and its application to product and printed material. Using earthy tones throughout its products, the utensils being wooden, and packaging colour choices being of a similar tone.
It has a real family friendly feel about it, something every kitchen can have - not just to be bought by those who have money, and the huge overpriced kitchen to go with it. Although directed at everyone there is a level of quality throughout its products, using printing methods and finishes, such as an embossed publication, to reflect this.
Within my Be-Ro brief I must consider how the branding and logo is applied across a range of products, print collateral and event material, the ethos of my products and the message I want to send out.

DC - Brief 4 - Five Point Bakery
Source: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Fivepoint-Cafe-Bakery/5626805
Fivepoint has taken a modern yet classic approach in branding the Cafe bakery, using simple typography alongside a monochromatic colour palette - a very different style to myself. My initial thoughts in branding a bakery is it should be very 'Countryside kitchen', with hand rendered typography and illustration being a main focus. Fivepoint proves that this approach isn't always best and taking a simple route can be just as effective. As a result it looks very high end, and reflects the high quality of highstreet chain bakeries / cafes.
Within the Be-Ro brief, this is a direction I could try and push the branding, to give it a high quality look and appeal, after all the target audience of high street coffee shops and bakeries are those I want to aim the baking products at, an age range of 20 - 25.
